Sell and take gift cards

How they work

A gift card is a code worth money in your shop's currency. The balance only changes through a record of each use, so it can't drift.

Make one by hand

  1. Open Products · Gift cards

    Managers and Owners.

  2. Issue a card

Set the amount, a note and an email to send it to. An expiry day is optional.

  3. Share the code

    It looks like XXXX-XXXX-XXXX.

Sell them online

  1. Open a product

Tick Sell as a gift card. It's always digital.

  2. The code is emailed when it's paid

To the Recipient email the buyer fills in, otherwise to the buyer. Add a Message box if you like.

  3. A full refund switches the cards off

What's already been spent stays spent.

At checkout

Shoppers type the code in Gift card code. The card is spent when the order is paid, not when it's placed. Discount codes never apply to a gift card. If it doesn't cover everything, the rest is paid by card or PayPal. A refund goes to their payment first, then back onto the card.

Questions

Can a gift card pay for a gift card?

No.

Is there a limit on wrong guesses?

Yes. Repeated wrong codes from one connection lock out, as sign-in does.

Do cards work in other currencies?

They're in your shop's own currency.
