Describe a photo for search and screen readers
A photo's description is read out to people who can't see it, and search engines use it to understand your page. Every photo has a Describe this photo box: in the library, and wherever you use the photo.

Open Images
On a computer, Images is in the sidebar. On a phone, tap More, then Images.
Tap the photo
It opens with its file name and size.
Type a description
Under Describe this photo, say what's in it, in a few plain words, such as Our shop front on a sunny day. Up to 300 characters.
Tap Save
Saved appears. From now on, the photo brings this description with it when you put it in a section.
Check it where it's used
A section keeps its own description for each photo, in its own Describe this photo box. Change it there to suit that spot. Describing a photo in the library later doesn't change sections that already use it.
Good to know
- Describe the photo, not the fact it's a photo: skip words like image of.
- For a logo, the company's name is enough.
- In a slideshow with Show each description as a caption on, the description shows under each slide.
- On a product, each photo has its own description box too.
- When you change the image in a slot, the old description stays, so update it to match.
