Edit your header and footer menus

Menus are the links across the top of your site (the header) and along the bottom (the footer). Every site has a Header and a Footer menu, marked Always here. You can add more menus too: each one becomes another column in the footer.

  1. Open Content, then Menus

On a computer, choose Content in the sidebar, then the Menus tab. On a phone, tap More, then Content, then Menus.

  2. Pick a menu

Tap Header or Footer. A header nobody has changed yet is automatic: every live page, then Shop and Journal when they have something in them. Change anything and it becomes yours, and new pages then wait for you to add them.

  3. Add an item

Tap Add item and choose where it should go: a page, a product category or product, the journal, an article category or article, the shop, or a web address. For a web address, type the full address starting with https:// and tap Use this address. Opens in a new tab is on by default.

  4. Change the label

Tap an item to open it. Label is the text people see; leave it empty to use the title of what it links to. Tap Change beside Links to if it should point somewhere else.

  5. Reorder and tuck items under

Drag the handle on the left to move an item. Drag it to the right to tuck it under the item above, or open it and turn on Sits under. One level of nesting is the limit. On a computer these drop down; on a phone they open in place.

  6. Check it saved

Every change saves a moment later. Watch for ✓ Saved at the top. If you see Retry, tap it.

Good to know

  • To add a footer column, tap Add menu on the Menus tab, give it a name (it becomes the column heading, like Help or Follow along) and tap Create menu.
  • An item that links to something deleted shows This page no longer exists in red. A link to a draft shows not live yet, hidden on your site, and stays hidden until it goes live.
  • The newsletter form and social links in the footer live in Settings · Footer, not here.

Questions

How do I go back to the automatic header?

Open Header and, under Menu settings, tap Back to automatic. What's in the menu now is thrown away and new pages join by themselves again.

Can I delete the header or footer?

No, they're always there. You can empty them instead. Menus you added can go: open one and tap Delete this menu. The pages it pointed at stay as they are.
