The cookie notice

The cookie notice asks visitors whether they're happy to be counted by your analytics. With it on, Google Analytics and the Meta pixel only load for people who tap Accept. In places like the EU, the UK and Thailand you're expected to ask first.

  1. Open Settings, then Cookie notice

On a computer, choose Settings in the sidebar. On a phone, tap More, then Settings. Cookie notice is under Your site.

  2. Switch it on

Turn on Show a cookie notice.

  3. Write the message

Under Message, write one or two plain sentences. It starts as: We use cookies to see how people find and use this site. You can say no.

  4. Link to your privacy page

Under Read more links to, choose your privacy page if you have one, or No link. Only published pages are listed.

  5. Check How it looks

The preview shows your message with its Accept and Decline buttons. On your site it takes your own colours.

  6. Save

Tap Save in the bar at the bottom. Settings then shows Cookie notice as On.

Good to know

  • Each visitor is asked once. Their answer is kept for a year.
  • Decline, or no answer yet, means analytics never load for them.
  • Code under Settings, then Custom code isn't held back by the notice.
  • You can turn the notice on before you add analytics. They'll wait for Accept when you do.
