Redirects from your old site

When you move to o/i, old links (in Google, in emails, on other sites) may point to addresses that no longer exist. Redirects send those visitors somewhere useful. o/i also shows you the addresses people have actually landed on that don't exist.

  1. Open Settings, then Redirects

On a computer, choose Settings in the sidebar. On a phone, tap More, then Settings. Redirects is under Your site.

  2. Check the Not found tab

It lists addresses people landed on that don't exist, with how many visits, when, and where they came from.

  3. Redirect an address

Tap Redirect this beside it. Under To, type a page on your site like /about, or a full address starting with https://. Tap Save rule.

  4. Ignore what doesn't matter

Anything with one or two visits is usually a bot. Tap Ignore to clear it from the list.

  5. Add a rule yourself

Tap Add a rule at the top. Type the old address under From, like /old-page or /shop/thing.html, and where it should go under To. Tap Save rule.

  6. Review your rules

The Rules tab shows every rule and how many people it has sent on. Tap Remove to stop one.

  7. Keep links working when you rename

Switch on Redirect automatically when I rename a page, at the bottom of the screen. A rename then adds a rule for the old address.

Good to know

  • Capital letters, a slash at the end and anything after a ? are ignored, so /Shop/Item/ and /shop/item are the same.
  • A rule only works for an address that isn't a live page on your site. The front page can't be redirected.
  • Saving a rule for an address that already has one replaces it.
  • Not found keeps 90 days of visits.
  • Rules are added one at a time. Moving a big site? Ask us.
