Custom code (owners)
Custom code is for the bits of code a service asks you to add to your site, like a chat widget, a booking tool or a font. It runs on every page of your site, for every visitor, so only paste code from someone you trust.
Managers can open it and read it, but not change it.
2 minutesOwnersWorks on a phone
Open Settings, then Custom code
On a computer, choose Settings in the sidebar. On a phone, tap More, then Settings. Custom code is under Advanced. The first time, you may be asked to set up an authenticator app (One more lock for this). It takes a minute, then you're brought back.
Paste code for the start of every page
Most scripts and styles go in At the start of every page.
Or for the end of every page
Code that should load after everything else goes in At the end of every page.
Save
Tap Save in the bar at the bottom. The screen shows who saved it last, and when.
Check your site
Open your site and make sure everything still looks and works as it should.
Put an earlier version back
If something breaks, find the version you want under Earlier versions and tap Put this back. The last ten versions are kept, and the one you replace is kept too.
Good to know
- Custom code isn't held back by the cookie notice. Google Analytics and the Meta pixel belong under Settings, then Analytics, where they wait for Accept.
- Each box holds up to 20,000 characters.
- Every change shows in Activity, with who made it.
- Code here can change anything on your pages. If a service you don't know asks you to add something, check with us first.
