Help/Shop/Connect Stripe

Connect Stripe

Payments go through your own Stripe account. Customers pay you directly, and Stripe holds the card details, the money and the payouts to your bank. o/i takes no cut of your sales. Until your keys are in, nothing can be bought on your live site.

Managers can see the Payments screen but not change the keys. The shop is an add-on. If you can't see Orders or Products, an Owner can add it under Settings · Plan, in Add to your plan.

  1. Open Settings, then Payments

On a computer, choose Settings in the sidebar. On a phone, tap More, then Settings. Payments is under Selling.

  2. Make a key in Stripe

In Stripe, go to Developers, API keys, Create restricted key. Give it write access to Checkout Sessions, Coupons, Refunds and Payment method configurations, and read access to Balance. Your standard secret key also works.

  3. Add the webhook in Stripe

In Stripe, go to Developers, Webhooks, Add endpoint. Paste the Webhook address shown on the Payments screen. Pick the events checkout.session.completed, checkout.session.async_payment_succeeded and checkout.session.async_payment_failed, then copy its Signing secret.

  4. Paste both into o/i

Paste the key into Secret key (it starts rk_live_ or sk_live_) and the signing secret into Webhook signing secret (it starts whsec_). Tap Save keys.

  5. Check it's connected

We check the key with Stripe, then keep it encrypted. Nobody can read it back, us included. Your Stripe shows Connected. If it says Stripe still has questions, finish them in your Stripe dashboard and tap Check again.

  6. Choose ways to pay

Under Ways to pay, cards are always on. Switch Apple Pay, Google Pay and Afterpay on or off. These change your Stripe's own settings.

Good to know

  • The first time an Owner opens the keys, o/i asks them to set up an authenticator app, headed One more lock for this. It takes a minute and protects your payments.
  • The webhook is optional, but without it a paid order can be missed if the customer closes the page.
  • A key starting rk_test_ or sk_test_ puts you in Test mode, for trying checkout without real money.
  • Remove the keys stops all buying until new ones go in. Your Stripe account itself stays as it is.
